Destiny Sanchez, Caela’s Friend and A.I. Dupont Roommate, read by Natalie Corbin
"Dear Friend..."
Introduction
My name is Natalie Corbin and I will be
reading remarks written by Destiny Sanchez, Caela’s friend. Destiny was a teenager when she and Caela met at AI DuPont
Hospital for Children during the summer of 2002. Since then, Caela and Destiny have been roommates in the
hospital several times and kept in touch in between admissions.
Even though they were so far apart in age, Caela and Destiny
shared an undeniable connection. Destiny has struggled with her own difficult illness since
the age of 9, and is now waiting for a quadruple organ transplant.
Destiny often speaks about how much inspiration and laughter
Caela brought to her life, but Caela’s family also thank Destiny and
her family for their courage and unshakeable faith in the face of pain
and heartache. In
carrying on Caela’s legacy, her family will not forget the love these
two girls shared. Destiny
could not be here today because she is currently in the hospital
continuing her fight, but wanted to share her thoughts about her friend
with all of us today.
Destiny's Thoughts
God makes all of us very different. Some of us have difficulties that
others cannot imagine how we live day to day,but we do. God gives us
strength to fight our weaknesses,he gives us each other to learn from
and lean on. Each day is a gift and no matter what our shortcomings are,
we know that some day we will be whole again. I am a friend of Caela's
from AI Dupont Hospital for Children and have known caela for a number
of years. I have gained strength from Caela's courage to fight her
illness. Although Caela was
unable to verbally communicate with us, her bright eyes told us what she
was saying. We all should have peace in our hearts today knowing that
Caela is no longer struggling with her sickness she had here on earth.
Today she is whole again; an angel in heaven.
Caela, I am so glad God brought us together, you mean alot to me and
will always be in my heart.
Friends Forever,
Destiny Sanchez
